Mechanical Fitter

Role Summary
Are you skilled in mechanical tasks and looking for a dynamic role? We are seeking a Mechanical Fitter to provide essential mechanical support for installation, repair, and service requirements. You'll also support electricians with the mechanical aspects of their work and contribute to the enhancement of mechanical assets through innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and report progress to management, highlighting any issues outside of the scope of delivery.
- Test mechanical systems and equipment with devices such as vibration sensors and infra-red cameras to ensure compatibility and safety.
- Inspect mechanical systems and components to identify hazards, defects, and repair needs.
- Complete tasks as directed by site supervisors and project managers.
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain mechanical equipment, using hand tools, test equipment, and power tools.
- Conduct mechanical tasks including pump replacement, screen and pipework installation, alignments, valve problem solving, and fault finding.
- Perform planned preventative maintenance on pumping systems.
- Ensure adherence to contractual response times and keep the site team updated.
- React to emergency and shutdown works as required.
- Complete Point of Work Risk Assessments and ensure a clear understanding of Risk Assessment & Method Statements.
- Prepare and submit work and progress reports as needed.
- Read, understand, and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics.
Knowledge and Experience:
- GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths.
- Completed a modern apprenticeship or equivalent in engineering.
- Relevant experience in an engineering environment preferred but not essential.
- Hold relevant certifications: CSCS or equivalent, EUSR Water and Sewage (preferred but not essential), PASMA, IPAF, Confined Space (high risk), Abrasive Wheels (desired but not essential).
- Working knowledge of pipework, screens, pumps, and motors.
- Experience in an on-site engineering environment is essential.
- Hardworking with good communication skills and a conscientious attitude.
- Ability to work under pressure, on your own initiative, and as part of a team.
- Previous experience in the water industry preferred but not essential.
